Description
One day, Joanie Fortin was told that the hand puppet was invented by someone caught red-handed… and she believed it. That could be the beginning of her journey, where naive amusement meets sensitive exploration. She builds her training like a patchwork, gathering blocks here and there: a theater certificate (focused on sound dramaturgy) from UQAC, a bachelor’s degree in Theater Studies from UQAM, as well as workshops with Puppets in Prague, La Pire Espèce, and Marcelle Hudon. She navigates within a triangle where the three points are object, sound, and dramaturgy, figuring it’s more comfortable in the center than in the corners.
A graduate of UQAM’s DESS in Contemporary Puppet Theater (2017-2019), she co-founded the collective Les Tables Tournantes, where she created Disgraceland and is currently developing Do You Believe in Fairies? as part of the Accueil de Luxe program at Théâtre Aux Écuries. A member of the young audience company Création Bluette, she designed sets and shadow puppets for Bon Voyage? (Maison Théâtre, 2025) and performed in the object theater show Psycho-Carrot. She also lends her dexterity to the companies Tortue Berlue (Les Savants Flous, Petits Monstres) and La Pire Espèce (Réalités Parallèles). Since 2024, she has been part of the coordination team for the OUF! Festival Off Casteliers.
