About
Puppeteer and sculptor Noémi Bélanger invites us to discover her human and animal characters in various dimensions, right up to the human scale. At the intersection of visual and performing arts, Noémi Bélanger’s work is inspired by the human being, his fragility and impermanence. The artist chooses wool, a material derived from animals, to transcend the intrinsic qualities of the living and evoke kinaesthetic sensations. Through the choice of materials, the facial mimics and bodily attitudes of the characters, the artist’s visual and narrative universe engages the emotional and empathetic relationship with both self and other. Throughout her creative process, the artist focuses on personifying her puppets, seeking to bring matter to life. Unique narrative works that the artist does not hesitate to stage, her characters plunge their gaze into the visitor’s to open up a dialogue.
