About
On the borderline between documentary, movement and object, VAGUES invites us to descend into the intimacy of water.
“The being devoted to water is a being in vertigo. He dies every minute” (Gaston Bachelard, L’eau et les rêves).
In voice-over, in documentary form, then at the microphone, she recounts the singular relationship she has with this water. Her childhood on a boat, and later her return to the depths of the deep blue sea through deep-sea diving. The death drive, the desire never to return.
Through the various waves Melanie passes through, a portrait is woven of a journey under construction. There is talk of complex family relationships, of the need for pain to feel, of a body in the grip of aging, and so on.
To tell the story of this water, a circular “lake” of one-way mirrors is strewn across the floor. Impudent mirrors that force her to look at herself, over and over again. To accept the passage of time. Mirrors that she manipulates to give life to this story of water.
