About
After the success of Macbeth Muet, co-created with Marie Hélène Bélanger, director Jon Lachlan Stewart attacks Oscar Wilde’s timeless novella with the same textless approach, mixing physical theatre, upbeat music, and puppetry.
In turn of the century Victorian London, the young beauty Dorian Gray wishes for his youth and beauty to be preserved forever, and he gains his wish when a famous artist, Basil, paints Dorian’s portrait, sealing his soul within the frame.
However, when his friend Lord Henry encourages him to live a life of pleasure and caprice, the portrait transforms grotesquely.
In residency with the teen festival RTAdos, The Picture of Dorian Gray aims to bring this classic to teen and adult audiences alike, with a focus on a young man’s obsession with this own image of perfection.
