About
A solo production in research and creation by Maggie Winston of Lost & Found Puppet co.
This project is at the beginning stages of research. It is my intention to create a solo show for young audiences.
The piece will utilize contemporary puppetry techniques such as ‘the body as landscape’, costume and puppet combination, and conventions of contemporary object theatre i.e. change of scale and cinematic storytelling. The clown as storyteller/manipulator will also be employed.
The story is about a solitary loon on a lake. As I watch and listen to the loon that inhabits the lake where I spend my summers, I can’t help but imagine what it’s thinking or feeling. It’s easy to anthropomorphize and use my own imagination to enter what I believe to be its world. Instantly, I make parallels to my own world, my own human perspective. I relate to the fact that this same loon comes back to this lake every summer too. I imagine that when it howls out into the night, calling for its mate, it’s searching for its companion in life as much as I am. In the country, away from the city, I’m simultaneously reminded of my loneliness for others and my contentment to be held by this land.
