Description

After graduating from the Conservatoire d’Art dramatique de Québec in acting in 1990, Antoine Laprise performed extensively in theater before participating in the Radio-Canada TV program La Course Destination Monde, then working for several years as a television director. In 1995, he and Lorraine Côté founded Sous-marin jaune, a puppet company led by the now famous Loup bleu, who is responsible for such cult shows as Candide (1995), La Bible (2000), Le Discours de la méthode (2005), Les Essais d’après Montaigne (2008), and Guerre et paix (2014). He devotes himself mainly to theater and music direction (Le Voyage d’hiver by Keith Kouna, 2014). His first solo puppet show, Otomonogatari / L’Éveil d’une oreille (2015), explored the world of Japanese experimental music. His new solo project, Absence des extraterrestres, examines the effects of far-fetched theories on childhood. He has been a professor of performance and creation at the École supérieure de théâtre de l’UQAM since 2022, where he also collaborates on the DESS in contemporary puppet theater.
